Opening a window for Shine Your Light
Our care home Emmaus House in Harrogate lent their own creative sparkle to a national campaign celebrating the true meaning of Christmas
Christian care homes offer the community, support, and comfort of living alongside other believers. They offer everything you would find in other, non-religious retirement communities when it comes to providing practical, social support later in life. In addition, they allow Christians to enjoy the benefit of living with and sharing faith with other believers, rather than having to keep quiet about an important part of their life. Not all these homes make faith a requirement for joining. For some the ‘Christian’ aspect is more about those providing care and the spirit in which they do it, so non-believers are welcome too. Others, like Pilgrims' Friend Society, will focus on cultivating a specifically Christian space, but in some homes will include those who are at least sympathetic to the Christian faith. Learn more about what Christians working at Pilgrims' Friend Society believe.
Christian care homes enable believers to pursue and enjoy the gifts of faith and discipleship, ensuring that later life remains a time for fulfilment and growth. They cultivate community through collective worship, prayer, and Bible study, which has a special benefit when visiting a church building is no longer practical. Christian faith also shows itself in other ways: these homes offer care that is inspired by Jesus Christ’s ethic of self-giving love and generosity, and stands on the historic Christian legacy of committed care for the vulnerable. They recognise that every person has inherent dignity and worth given by God, and should be treated as such. You can read more about the Christian ethos of care at Pilgrims' Friend Society.
At Pilgrims’ Friend Society we support older people to live fulfilled later lives in our residential care homes and independent living housing schemes. We’re Christians, committed to making spaces where older Christians can flourish. Read more about the values behind our homes. Our residents feel free to enjoy the benefits of a faith community, such as group worship and prayer, as well as having all their other physical and emotional needs supported. We offer homes for practising Christians and those who are sympathetic to the Christian faith – you can browse them below.
