Coronavirus update

News of life in our homes and housing schemes during the coronavirus pandemic

As in every care home and housing scheme across the UK, the coronavirus has brought challenges to all those who live and work in our communities. We thank the Lord for the many ways in which our teams have pulled together, with staff going the extra mile to keep those who live with us safe and to ensure they have every opportunity to flourish in later life.

We've also been inspired by how those living with us have faced the lockdown with a positive, prayerful attitude, serving and encouraging those whom they live alongside and the wider community.

If you think you or a loved one could benefit from joining one of our homes and housing schemes, we'd love to hear from you. We have a 14 locations spread around England and Scotland, with a brand new home opening in 2021.

To give you a taste of what life with us is like, we thought we'd share with you some of the highlights from life in lockdown, with many taken from our homes' Facebook pages (to find out more follow the links). During the lockdown, we've seen...

Lots of baking! There have been treats for VE Day and Alzheimer's Society's Cupcake Day (including Florence House, Luff House, Evington Home), with our catering teams cooking up a storm and some residents getting involved too:

Birthdays have been celebrated with cakes (Framland) and Skype calls to family (Leonora Home):

There's been lots of gardening, both inside (Emmaus House) and out (Pilgrim Gardens):

One keen gardener told us how tending his bountiful allotment has been a perfect lockdown distraction, while a keen knitter has been delighting her neighbours with some feathered friends.

Many of those living at our homes have been sharing encouraging and reassuring messages via social media. To find out what one lady at Framland is thankful for, watch this video.

With professionals unable to visit as usual, members of our staff team have been stepping up. Read more here.

Bright signs displayed in windows, like this beautiful cross at Florence House, have shared messages of hope with those inside and out.

Where possible, our housing schemes have moved services outside, with volunteers from local churches providing music from a safe social distance to encourage those at Pilgrim Gardens and singing from balconies at Royd Court.

Many of our homes have strong links with local schools. With children unable to visit as usual, residents have been encouraged by letters and cards, like these received by Bethany Christian Home. Read more hereand here.

In fine weather, our staff have laid on barbecues (Evington Home) and treats outside (Luff House):
