Dorothea Court follow in Bunyan's footsteps
Our Chair of Trustees Michael Abbott reports on a trip to the Bedfordshire village where John Bunyan lived
On Monday 15th July in the afternoon, a group of residents, staff and volunteers (23 in total) from Dorothea Court gathered at the tea garden in Elstow village, where John Bunyan lived in the 17th century. Despite a bit of drizzle, we were not deterred as we were under cover and the weather was mild.
After enjoying a cream tea together, we visited Elstow Abbey Church, where we were given a talk about the church and former abbey, and the life of John Bunyan. The highlight was seeing the window in the church depicting scenes from The Pilgrim's Progress.
We were reminded how, when Pilgrim saw Jesus dying for his sins on the cross, his burden rolled away. We were also shown a second window depicting scenes from the Holy War.
A very enjoyable afternoon out!
