Send a Christmas postcard
Could you reach out to an older person by sending a postcard this Christmas?
Many older people in the UK experience loneliness and isolation. According to Age Concern, more than one million older people say they go more than a month without speaking to anyone. Following a year of social distancing and with visiting restrictions in place due to the coronavirus pandemic, this Christmas season could be especially hard for many older people, impacting their emotional health and physical wellbeing.
Our sister charity Faith in Later Life exists to help Christians reach out and empower older people across the UK. For their Christmas Connections campaign, they've created a series of postcards featuring scenes from the Christmas story alongside Bible verses. The charity is asking people to think who they could send a postcard to - whether it's someone in their church or local community, including a local care home (check with the care home first). In particular, the charity is asking Christians to reach out to older people who may not have the support of friends and family, and share a message of hope.
The postcards come in packs of seven and are available for £2.75, or are free to Faith in Later Life Church Champions.
